Clive Palmer is angry. Very angry.

"The treasurer is presiding over a scandalous situation where he's taking my money, and taxpayers money, to start a campaign of disinformation," he told Network Ten on Sunday. "The only people lying is the government."

Of course he is.

And I am sure that he protested when the previous government used taxpayers money to promote it's Workchoices legislation. You know - the government led by the party where he is the biggest donor.

But getting back to the ads, I think that it is a bad move from the government. I did not like it when Howard advertised Workchoices, and I do not like it when this government is doing the same.

Saying that, I do understand why the government is getting on the front foot. The misinformation from those who are wanting to protect their profits needs a response. I just do not know if an ad campaign in the right way to go about it.

We were hoping to get out to take some photos of the Vivid Festival here in Sydney, but the weather has been poor (as is my health) - so no luck on that score. But we did manage to get the following photo of Darling Harbour last night.

Yep, the ABC hit rock bottom when it comes to political bias with this morning's Insiders.

The ever so "fair & balanced" Andrew Bolt was virtually egged on by host Barrie Cassidy to push his Kevin Rudd hate-fest. Dennis Atkins from QLD's The Courier Mail (yet another Murdoch empire tentacle) made sure he got a few punches into Labor on every possible front. And even Karen Middleton from SBS demonstrated that beating up on Kevin Rudd has become a pleasurable & addictive sport for our mainstream media commentators.

You'd think Rudd was a piñata the way this morning's panel put a concerted effort into bashing the life out of his reputation. I guess they reckon if they bash him enuff he'll explode & the goodies will fall into their media company's profiteering hands.

Tho, to be fair to Middleton, she did take on Bolt over his callous & dismissive comments related to global warming...and Abbott on his less than compassionate "turn the boats back" announcement. A policy so cruel in this commentator's opinion that it will probably turn many a Green who thought they might punish Labor on the ETS delay by voting Liberal back to the less HYDEish Rudd.

And some wonder why the government needs to advertise...sell its message. With a public broadcaster like ours...and a media dominated by the Murdoch empire & right-wing cock jocks, is it any wonder?

N'

BTW, my wife S' sounded like the Tony Harrison character from 'The Mighty Boosh' after watching "Insiders'..."this is an outrage!":

Scram you pesky jet
The US has started tests of a "hypersonic cruise missile" over the pacific. These jets use a scramjet, which does not have any turbines or blades to produce thrust and is capable of greater top speeds - but they do need a push start.

Australian and New Zealand scientists have achieved and ten-fold increase in resolution by combining six radio telescopes to get clearer images.

Scientists in Australia and New Zealand have achieved a similar feat by bringing together the radio signals of six telescopes spread across the two countries to act as one giant telescope.

Like getting glasses for your glasses I guess.

Can't come to work, got a virus

Now this story is just plain silly.

A research scientist has become the first person to infect himself with a computer virus in a bid to study the risks associated with a new generation of micro-chipped medical implants.

I am not sure what his point is.

As the working week draws to a close, we deserve an open thread where any topic can be discussed. I am sure that there are stories that I have missed - so please bring them up and let's have a cosy chat around the browser of your choice.

And a warm welcome back to our intrepid traveller TB.
