Maclolm Fraser has quit the Liberal Party saying that it is "no longer a liberal party but a conservative party". Quite true. The coalition is becoming almost as bad as the tea-baggers in the US. He allegedly told friends his replacement, Tony Abbott, was 'all over the place' on policy and disliked the racist overtones adopted by the party in the debate on immigration. This comes on top of Abbott's desire to distance himself from the former member for Bennelong, who we remember was only the second sitting PM to lose his seat at a federal election. TONY ABBOTT has defended his controversial paid parental leave scheme by saying the Coalition needed to show voters it had moved on from John Howard. Yes - and let's do that by moving further to the right and looking after the interests of the biggest Liberal party donors - oops, I mean mining magnates. Silly me. Queensland billionaire and mining magnate Clive Palmer has emerged as the largest political donor of the last financial year, tipping more than $800,000 into conservative parties' coffers. |
