I reckon it must be through gritted teeth that Dennis "We own the polls" Shanahan has admitted that the latest Newspoll shows very little change in the two-part preferred vote - which has the ALP down one point to 52%.
A slump in support for the Greens detracted from Labor's second preferences, leaving the Coalition and Government where they were at the 2007 election.
So - the latest poll is exactly where it was at the election - which means that after the worst week for the government since the election, the ALP would still win.
But do note - the support for the ALP actually went up in this poll (on first preferences from 39 to 40).
As I said on the Hubris thread - there is a long way to go to the election.
