Rumours have emerged that the former prime minister has been nominated by the governing cricket bodies in Australia and New Zealand to take the leadership of the International Cricket Council when the job becomes vacant in 2012.
The SMH (Peter Roebuck) says (in a very restrained piece):
Cricket Australia's decision to nominate John Howard as its candidate for the top job at the International Cricket Council is as pitiful as it is disrespectful. Howard's knowledge of cricket is more characterised by enthusiasm than depth or imagination. Plain and simple, he is not qualified for the job.
Come now, Peter, tell us what you really think.
I dunno, I reckon it could be a good move. The guy certainly loves his cricket, and isn't passion a good asset?
And anytime is a good time to post this youtube clip again:
I am sitting, lazying on the sofa - absently surfing the innertubes, waiting for the bf to drag me to the gym. In the background is the test match between Australia and Pakistan. And we are currently 6 for 54.... SIX !!! This is just silly.
Should Ponting have chosen to bowl on such a green pitch?
The start of the week brings us our start of the week open thread where we can chat about whatever takes our fancy.
I have an idea for a new event for Sydney - but I do not know how to get it started. I live in Pyrmont and often walk over Pyrmont Bridge. I was thinking that we should have a footrace (for professionals?) across the bridge. My thought is that sponsorship could raise the prizemoney, with the backdrop of the city skyline and Darling Habour could get some decent publicity for Sydney.
I see grandstands at either end, with people cheering along the sides of the bridge. The length is about 370m - so we could have it as a 200 or 300 metre race.
Now - how do I get the Blogocrats 300 off the ground?
(oh - and this is an open thread - so chat about anything)
Well, what a year. After drunken group sex allegations, the usual coach sackings, a couple of CEO sackings/ departures (one involving sex allegations), a footy show sacking (related to afore mentioned group sex), some drunken biffo, drunken nudity antics (by coaches and players), some domestic abuse cases, some drunken pooing incidents and some good footy games (as well as a couple of shockers, mostly involving either Cronulla or the Roosters), we finally get to the GF, the big game to decide who has the right to be crowned the 'benchmark team' for next season. So who will it be - the Storm or the Eels?
