The Monthly has a series of podcasts and vodcasts lectures/ talks of celebrities and well-respected academics worth watching/listening/downloading (known as Slow TV).
This inaugural Derek Denton lecture in University of Melbourne featuring President of the Royal Society Lord (Martin) Rees provides a fascinating insight (not to mention brief intro) on the latest scientific understanding of ourĀ cosmology. From the Big Bang to Mars exploration, Rees's explanation makes the topic digestible for the average person without any prior knowledge. The lecture has been divided into a two part video broadcast (each about 26 minutes respectively).
