I arrived back in Sydney this morning after another uncomfortable Qantas flight. And I must say, the changes to immigration and customs are very good. And they make the whole process much quicker - then again, I was on one of the earliest flights so maybe later it is worse.

This afternoon we have been out working on the Amnesty International stall at Fair Day (part of Mardi Gras).

And so, I hope that normal blog service will resume tomorrow. I have a few stories planned for the week.

So let us start the end of the weekend (or is that the beginning of the week) with an open thread.

This morning I am having my breakfast in the hotel here in Manila, reading the local paper when I come across this ad.

This is not a radical newspaper, it is the Philippine Star.

Elsewhere in Manila, every shop - hairdressers, Starbucks, 7/11 - they all have armed guards, sometimes more than one.

Sorry for the lack of posts by myself this week, things here in Manila have been a bit hectic, so I have not had a chance for many posts in the last couple of days.

So - let's start Friday (I know it still a couple of hours away) with an open thread for you to discuss any topics and stories that we might have missed this week.

One that caught my eye was how the Copyright Agency Limited pays it's staff more than the artists and authors. The Australian reports:

But the collection agency last year paid $9.4 million in salaries, compared with a $9.1m direct allocation for authors and artists.

Now that seems a bit ridiculous eh?

So what have you noticed that we have missed?
