IDAHO
Monday the 17th May is International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO). Today I will be attend the Marriage Equality Rally at Town Hall in Sydney (1pm if anyone wants to come along) - one of many events being held around the country to coincide with IDAHO.
We are very fortunate in Australia in that homosexuality is no longer a crime, but we need to remember that others are not so fortunate. In Africa, for example, homosexuality is illegal in 37 countries. In Malawi, a gay couple are facing hefty prison sentences for daring to declare their commitment to each other in a public ceremony.
So I think those at todays rally should not forget those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We may be fighting for equal rights, but many are just fighting for the right to be themselves.
I will have some photos up later of todays rally.
